To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to offer my highest recommendation for Julianne Rothan-Centers who filled in for an ailing 8th grade teacher for three weeks this past fall. She was truly fantastic, raising the bar with professionalism and grace for our students. A colleague of mine recommended her as she had filled in earlier in the year at her school, and that they had worked together previously at another Waldorf school in years past.
Julianne arrived 4 days after we made our arrangements hitting the ground running ready to unfold a physiology block that we had managed to begin before she arrived. Like a true Waldorf teacher, she made no assumptions while she quickly investigated exactly where the class was in not only their learning, but also what they were most interested in learning. Right away her experience and training shown through, giving me as the school administrator the sense that I could let her do her thing and that the students were being left in good hands. Indeed, they were.
I would also like to note that she is skilled at maintaining good solid classroom management, the kind that comes from years of successful experience. Additionally, she sought to meet the students where they were and then raise expectations so that they had an experience of learning that encouraged striving.
Finally, I would like to emphasize that I found her very easy to work with. She communicated her needs without being needy and over demanding. She let me know when she needed my authority with students that needed it. In the end, her observations and insights on the class were very valuable to the school.
There is absolutely no question that I would seek her service again should a need arise. I could not recommend her more highly, and in fact would hire her on a temporary or permanent basis if the opportunity presented itself.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,

SUBJECT: Reference for Juliane Rothan-Centers
To whom it is of interest:
I’ve known Juliane professionally since 2008 when I joined the staff of Live Oak Charter School as an administrator. She was teaching 6th grade at the time and for three years I was responsible for her evaluations. Juliane’s experience, training, dedication, and enthusiasm were assets in strengthening the middle school program. Her lessons were engaging; she integrated movement with academic content, musical instruction, and activities that provided students with structured and openended inquiry. This was evident in how she led discussions that elicited their knowledge prior to developing the relevance of curricular topics, of which she had a thorough command. Juliane’s artistic talents also enhance her lessons. She displays a lovely script, both manuscript and cursive.
Juliane demonstrates a thorough understanding of the developmental stage of the middle school child. She organizes information and activities clearly and has strong expectations and guidelines to encourage a positive learning environment that emphasizes each student’s capacity and responsibility for their learning. She is also a clear and consistent disciplinarian. She leads by example as an adult who is respectful, curious, and supportive of the adolescent.
As the faculty chair, Juliane was part of the school’s leadership team and facilitated weekly faculty meetings. She also led an effort to reform the student senate that was an essential component of the compassionate campus program and organized and led off-campus boys’ and girls coming of age groups in conjunction with a supportive group of parents. When her class graduated the 8th grade, Juliane chose to teach overseas.
You can imagine my anticipation (seven years later) when a midyear middle school math position opened up at SunRidge this past spring just as I received an email from Juliane that she was back and looking for a long term substitute position!
Juliane stepped into the 6-8th grade math position in February with four months left to teach. She started by becoming familiar with the curriculum. She met with colleagues to understand their perspectives and became comfortable with the grading and parent portal being used. She arranged activities to get to know the students, developed social/learning agreements, and assessed each class. Juliane determined that the 6th grade could be taught together as one group and divided the 7th and 8thgrades students into smaller groups to accommodate different needs. She enlisted the support of capable students to lead small group instruction and built an environment of advocacy, responsibility and cooperation to enhance the potential for everyone to learn the material they were ready for. She provided remedial support through individual teaching sessions outside of class and regular communication with the educational support coordinator. She communicated with colleagues and parents effectively, putting in extra time to make sure that all went well. The year ended on a positive note with students in the 8th grade feeling prepared to go to high school, and 6th grade students wishing she would stay!
Thus, I highly recommend Juliane as a teacher of 5-8th grade students and would be happy to be contacted if you need further information.

February 2019
Juliane Rothan-Centers just completed a guest teaching position in my class of Grade Seven at Corvallis Waldorf School and it my pleasure to write this recommendation letter for her. Ms. Rothan-Centers taught a Chemistry Block that from beginning to end was expertly organized and presented. The block was designed around the idea of the Greek elements, which created a perfect frame to contain new information such as the Periodic Table, the combustion of various substances, pH, the water cycle and the lime cycle.
Each day students followed a rhythm that was clear, understandable and rich with interesting information. As a result of the rhythm set up by Ms. Rothan-Centers, students knew what her expectations were. Students also received multiple forms of feedback during each class and because of this, they were able to make progress in their understanding of a complex topic. !
Ms. Rothan-Centers developed a friendly and direct rapport with students immediately. She held the class in a way that was enlightening to watch because I could see the student-teacher communication in an objective way. What I learned from these observations now further informs my own communication with these students.
If given the opportunity to invite Ms. Juliane Rothan-Centers into your classrooms, I can highly recommend her as one of the most clear spoken, organized and engaged teachers I have observed in my 20 years of teaching.
